CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, May 16. HUNGARY’s Katinka Hosszu went out hard and held off a hard-charging Allison Schmitt to top the women’s 200-meter freestyle at the Arena Grand Prix in Charlotte tonight.

Hosszu blasted a time of 1:56.30 for the win, moving her to sixth in the SwimVortex world rankings behind Katie Ledecky’s fifth-place 1:56.27 from the Mesa stop of the Grand Prix. NBAC’s Allison Schmitt, an Olympic gold medalist in her own right, charged home in 29.21 in the final 50 to hit the wall in 1:56.41. That performance pushed her to seventh in the world just behind Hosszu as Schmitt continues to round into form following a difficult 2013.

Leah Smith checked in with a sizzling time of her own as she posted a 1:59.64 to jump to 10th in the world rankings with her third-place effort this evening.

SwimMAC’s Kathleen Baker (2:00.17), NBAC’s Cierra Runge (2:00.34), NBAC’s Becca Mann (2:00.62), NBAC’s Gillian Ryan (2:00.80) and Melanie Margalis (2:01.34) rounded out the rest of the top eight finishers.
