MESA, Arizona, April 25. RYAN Lochte struggled physically and mentally last fall and winter while healing from a freak knee injury he suffered, and after winning the 100 fly last night at the Arena Grand Prix, he talked about getting over the urge to “throw in the towel.”

Lochte credits SwimMAC Carolina head coach David Marsh for helping get him through the rough time, and he’s happy to be racing well. He spoke of the thrill of seeing Phelps back on the blocks and what it will mean for the two as they move forward in the Olympic cycle.

Lochte also talked about the state of his knee, and ignoring the continued advice of his doctors to not compete.
