Cassidy Bayer Claims 100 Butterfly NAG, Second Overall

ORLANDO, Florida, March 21. NATIONS Capital’s Cassidy Bayer isn’t messing around when it comes to the butterfly events. After watching her take down legendary Mary T Meagher’s 13-14 200 butterfly National Age Group record at the Tom Dolan Invitational in December, it was only a matter of time before its 100 butterfly counterpart fell.

It happened on the fourth night of the NCSA Junior National Championships. Bayer touched the wall in a 53.30, six one-hundredths of a second under Elizabeth Nelson’s 53.36 13-14 NAG.

Nelson, now 15, set the NAG record last year and was (somewhat ironically) racing next to Bayer in the A final heat. Nelson took second in the event with a 52.49, 8 tenths ahead of Bayer. First place went to Nations Capital’s Janet Hu, who set a NAG in the 17-18 200 butterfly earlier in the meet.
