Tyler Clary Celebrates 25th Birthday With News of Relocating to Charlotte

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, March 12. TYLER Clary announced big news today to mark his 25th birthday, telling the world that he is relocating from the University of Michigan to Charlotte, N.C., and the SwimMAC Carolina Team Elite squad of superstar Olympians.

Clary made the announcement today on his blog, tylerclaryracing.com, saying he was intrigued by what was going on in Charlotte during a visit with race car drivers as he continues to work on building his potential in that area when his swimming career is over. Incidentally, Charlotte is the headquarters of NASCAR.

Clary will have no lack of strong training partners, as backstroke rivals Ryan Lochte and Nick Thoman are based there. Lochte will also provide adequate competition in IM training once his knee injury fully heals.

“Practices with Ryan Lochte and Cullen Jones are always fun, and I really enjoyed the program as a whole,” Clary wrote. “I am looking forward to a training approach that is very different from what I am used to, and swimming with SwimMAC’s Elite team will be just that.”

Clary did not give a specific date of arrival, but said he’ll continue to visit Ann Arbor and work with Mike Bottom and his staff on “threshold training,” likely with the strong distance squad of freestylers and stroke specialists residing there.

Clary is still working on clearing up issues with a back injury sustained earlier this year, and could use the team of specialists in Charlotte working on rehabbing Lochte’s and Thoman’s injuries. Clary’s injury caused him to skip part of the Austin Grand Prix, though he was able to compete at the Orlando Grand Prix.
