San Antonio to Host Three National Championships for USA Swimming, U.S. Masters Swimming in 2015

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, October 9. SAN Antonio has made the most of its losing bid for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials, gaining the USA Swimming summer nationals and junior nationals in 2015, as well as the U.S. Masters Swimming nationals the same year.

The USA Swimming nationals will be held August 4-8 at the new Northside Swim Center, which had been the site where the city would have held the Olympic Trials if the bid had been awarded to San Antonio. (Omaha got the nod to host in 2016 for a third time.) Two days later, San Antonio will host junior nationals through August 14.

The dates of the senior national championships intersects with the 2015 long course world championships in Kazan, Russia, so the meet will not attract all of the country’s best swimmers. No international team rosters are set to be filled from the 2015 national championships, so it is in essence a final long course domestic championship meet before the Olympic Trials.

As for the junior national championships, it will likely be the opening salvo for many of the country’s top 18-and-under swimmers to declare their intentions to make the Olympic team the following year.

The U.S. Masters nationals often feature nearly 1,500 participants at its spring nationals, and San Antonio will be their host in April 2015. The last time USMS held a national championships in Texas was in 2008.

The Northside Swim Center features a 50-meter outdoor pool as well as a 25-meter training pool and permanent seating for 2,400 spectators.
