Records Fall at Southern Zone Championships

GREENVILLE, South Carolina, August. 12. THE record book took quite a beating at the Southern Zone Long Course Championships July 30-Aug. 4 at the Westside Aquatic Center in Greenville, S.C.

Leading the way was Georgia’s 13-14 boys team, which took down three zone relay records. Tan Dunn III, Alex Ballard, Noah Oh and Colin Riley bettered the 400 free relay mark with their 3:38.94. Brennan Pastorek and Alexander Mayfield joined Dunn and Riley for a 1:49.20 effort in the 200 medley relay. Jason Paquette came on board in the 400 medley relay with Dunn, Pastorek and Riley for their 4:02.65 mark.

Southeastern’s 13-14 girls squad lowered two relay records. Meredith Geyer, Mallory Underwood, Saram Cimino and Riley Gaines conquered the 200 free relay with their 1:48.60. Cimino and Underwood then combined with Kiley Vandevier and Rachel Cunningham for a 2:00.77 in the 200 medley relay.

Southeastern’s 11-12 girls squad of Alison Hu, Kobie Melton, Haley Bart and Abby Williamson bettered the 200 free relay record with their 1:51.55. In 11-12 boys relay action, the Georgia team of Jack Dolan, Liam Bell, Aiden Sherlock and Arion Solomon combined for a 2:00.40 in the 200 medley relay; Zachary Hils, Jacob Bibeau, Will Tarvestad and Aidan Johnston’s 4:24.52 gave them the 400 medley relay standard.

Tarvestad lowered individual records in the 11-12 boys 50 free (25.53) and 200 free (2:02.64). Tarvestad’s teammate, Brooke Forde, earned a Southern Zone record in the 13-14 girls 200 breast (2:35.30). North Carolina’s Levente Bathony recorded a zone record-setting 2:08.82 in the 13-14 boys 200 back.

Three 11-12 girls individual marks fell to Florida’s Kaitlyn Cronin (50 free, 27.10), Georgia’s Lainie Bell (100 back, 1:06.42) and Kentucky’s Julia Roy (100 fly, 1:03.70p).

Georgia snagged the team title with 962 points, with Florida coming in second (870.5), Southeastern third (790.5), North Carolina fourth (641.5) and Kentucky fifth (590).
