Caeleb Dressel Breaks 50 Free National Age Group Record Tie in Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, June 28. THIS morning at an age-group meet in his hometown of Jacksonville, Fla., Caeleb Dressel took sole ownership of the 50 long course meters freestyle national age group record for the 15-16 age group.

After tying Shayne Fleming's five-year-old record of 22.72 on Wednesday in a time trial in Indianapolis, Dressel posted a 22.59 today. Dressel had to swim a time trial on Wednesday and return home to race it again today because he had just missed qualifying for nationals in the event by eight hundredths of a second. His best time before this week was 23.37 from the Arena Grand Prix in Charlotte.

This is the third national age group record Dressel has set this week. On Tuesday, he took down Joe Hudepohl's 23-year-old record in the 100 free with a 49.63, then lowered the record in finals with a 49.50.
