Missy Franklin Prepping to Film Cameo on TV’s ‘Pretty Little Liars’

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 16. ONE month after filming a cameo in an upcoming Vince Vaughn theatrical film, Olympic champion Missy Franklin is getting ready to step in front of the camera again. This time, she'll appear on a program geared more toward her core fan base — ABC Family's “Pretty Little Liars.”

A press release from ABC Family mentioned that Franklin will play herself in an episode which has her conversing with Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell), a member of the Rosewood High School swim team, at a coffee shop. No air date has been set for the episode, which Franklin will film next week. The show's third season is being split in half, with the remaining episodes set to air in January.

“I am so excited to be doing a cameo for 'Pretty Little Liars,'” Franklin told Swimming World today. “It is one of the only shows I watch on a regular basis and my best friends and I have watch parties all the time. It's been so hard keeping it a secret because I know they are going to be so excited! Meeting the cast will be such an honor and so much fun and I can't wait to work with everyone there!”

“Pretty Little Liars” is the most popular show on ABC Family, currently attracting 2.6 million viewers. It's the most-watched series on television among females 12-34. The show centers on four teenage girls who are haunted by a mysterious person who threatens to reveal secrets while trying to discover who murdered one of their friends.

As was the case with Franklin's cameo appearance in the Vince Vaughn-Owen Wilson film “The Internship,” Franklin will not be paid for her appearance on “Pretty Little Liars.” The production company will only cover travel and lodging expenses, in an effort to keep Franklin eligible for NCAA competition.
