USA Swimming Sectionals, Buffalo: Leah Smith, Alex Lebed Bring Home Second Titles

BUFFALO, New York, August 3. LEAH Smith of the Jewish Community Center and Alex Lebed of Germantown Academy both raced to their second wins of the competition in the 200m free and 400m IM, respectively.

Leah Smith of the Jewish Community Center picked up her second individual win of the meet, winning the 200m free in dominating fashion in 2:01.76. Fox Chapel Killer Whales' Heidi Miller swam a 2:04.89 to take second, in front of Taylor O'Brien's 2:05.39. Meanwhile, Jersey Wahoo's Matthew Belecanech moved up two steps on the podium after taking third in the 100m free last night, winning the 200m free in 1:52.72. Curl Burke's Christoph Grimmett-Norris wound up second in 1:53.61, while Machine Aquatic's Daniel Camozzo was third (1:55.00).

Curl Burke placed another swimmer on the podium as Cassidy Bayer hit the wall first in the women's 100m fly in 1:01.75. Fox Chapel's Margaret Gruber emerged to take second in 1:02.22, just ahead of Towson's Melanie Rowland (1:02.28). Hershey Aquatic Club claimed top honors in the men's race with Vincent Tafuto taking the win in 55.40. Western Kentucky's Heitor Rodrigues touched right behind in 55.69, with Jewish Community Center's Jonathan Seiferth in third at 57.00.

In the final event of the evening, Madison Burns of Parkland Aquatic Club was the only swimmer under five minutes, stopping the clock in 4:58.34 in the women's 400m IM. Western Kentucky's Alexandra Duff took second in 5:01.69, while Aquabear's Juliette Lajoie was third (5:02.33). The men's race went to Germantown Academy's Alex Lebed in 4:28.42, as he swept the individual medleys at the meet. Jersey Wahoo's Grant Proctor placed second in 4:30.98, while Ridgefield Aquatic Club's Brian Bollerman rounded out the top three in 4:32.00.

SoNoCo won the women's 400m free relay (3:56.21) while Machine Aquatics claimed the men's title in 3:31.68.
