USA Swimming Sectionals, Iowa City: Pool Records Continue to Fall on Day Three

IOWA CITY, Iowa, July 21. FIVE more University of Iowa Aquatic Center records fell by the wayside tonight during the third night of competition in Iowa City.

Pool record holder Hannah Ross of Wisconsin would not be denied a win in the women's 200m back, defending her title from last year in 2:16.44. Minnesota Aquatics' Katharine Anton had a sensational last length to take over second in 2:17.38, just ahead of Southwest Aquatics' Ashlyn Schoof (2:17.58). Two swimmers cleared the previous pool record in the men's 200m back, with Wisconsin's Andrew Teduits (2:01.59) and Academy Bullets' Sean Lehane (2:01.73) both breaking Lehane's 2:02.18 from this morning's prelims. Peter Grumhaus of Cats Aquatic Team finished a distant third in 2:06.12.

Morgan Dickson of Patriot Aquatics earned her second win of the meet in the women's 400m free, a three-tenth victory over Gabrielle Stecker. Dickson swam a 4:22.28, while Stecker came in at 4:22.61. Wisconsin's Monika Stitski placed third in 4:23.25. For the second straight men's event, two swimmers eclipsed a pool record. This time, Michael Weiss (3:58.89) and Tyler Hines (3:59.68), teammates at Wisconsin, dipped under Weiss' record of 3:59.81 from this morning. Sean Nesheim of Minnesota Aquatics placed third in 4:04.20.

Central Iowa's Katharine Ross turned first in the women's 100m breast and held on to win in 1:11.26, just a tenth in front of Des Moines' Imelda Wistey (1:11.36). Samantha Pochowski of Southwest Aquatics also cracked 1:12 with a 1:11.62 for third. In the men's 100m breast, John Bushman of the Green Bay YMCA turned in a 1:04.57 to take first, with Club Hawkeye's Andrew Marciniak in second (1:04.80) and Westmont's Edward Mapel (1:05.11) in third.

Fox Valley's Gia Dalesandro claimed the final individual event on the women's schedule tonight with a 1:01.52 in the 100m fly. Annalise Colton of Minnesota Aquatics and Mary Schneider of the Academy Bullets posted identical 1:02.11s for second. Minnesota's Kyler Van Swol lowered the pool record in the men's event with a 53.53, topping Daniel Lester's 53.79 from last year. Lester touched second in 53.94, while Connor Black of the Cats Aquatic Team placed third in 54.35.

Wisconsin's quartet of Ruby Martin, Hannah Ross, Aja Van Hout and Ally Loper lowered another pool record in the women's 800m free relay (8:25.53), as did Minnesota's Kyler Van Swol, Sean Nesheim, Derek Toomey and Daniel Brebrick (7:38.02).
