USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro: Andrea Georoff, Carlos Almeida Win on Night One

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, July 12. DYNAMO Swim Club leads the team standings after collecting two wins on the first night of the Speedo Champions Series at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The women's and men's 800m free kicked off the first night of finals action, with Dynamo's Kylie Stewart and Silver Bullet Elite's Brian Via taking home the titles. Stewart swam a 9:08.02 to top Lakeside teammates Bryn Handley (9:09.28) and Ellie Grimes (9:10.10). Meanwhile, Via swam an 8:26.18, ahead of Lakeside's Jake Schultz (8:28.17) and Dynamo's Michael Kenny (8L34.17).

In the women's 200m IM, Dynamo's Haley Durmer took top honors with the only sub-2:20 performance of the meet, a 2:19.99. Danielle Jansen of Rock Hill Area YMCA finished second in 2:20.85, while City of Charleston's Micah Bohon swam a 2:22.41 for third. Louisville's Carlos Almeida, the 2012 NCAA champion in the men's 200 breast, cruised to victory in the men's 200m IM with a 2:05.80. Dynamo's Sam Lewis turned in a 2:08.46 to take second, ahead of Yellow Jacket's Mark Sarman, who touched in 2:08.85 for third.

SwimMAC Carolina's Andrea Georoff was the class of the field in the women's 50m free, posting a 26.16 for a convincing victory. Dynamo's Caitlin Cooper also broke 27, touching in 26.80 for second. Natalie Labonge of the host team Greensboro Swim Association swam a 27.03 for third place. SwimAtlanta's Brent Murray topped the field in the men's 50m free, posting a swift 23.15. Silver Bullet Elite teammates Jonathan Boffa (23.46) and Joseph Martin (23.55) rounded out the top three finishers.

In the closest finish of the evening, Myrtle Beach Riptide's Keenan Lineback nipped Silver Bullet Elite's Julianna Prim at the finish, 2:19.34 to 2:19.37, to win the women's 200m fly. Marlins of Raleigh's Katelyn Linker finished third in 2:20.58, only .03 ahead of fourth place finisher Samantha Kase of Dynamo. Another Louisville Cardinal garnered first place in the men's 200m fly; this time, it was Pedro Oliveira. Oliveira touched in 2:01.64, just edging New South's John Newell (2:01.68). Tom Luchsinger of Three Village took third in 2:02.93.

Through eight events, Dynamo leads the team standings with 286 points, with Lakeside (179) in second and Silver Bullet Elite (122) in third.
