Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational: Olympians Darian Townsend, Matt Grevers Win on Night Two

OMAHA, Nebraska, June 9. ROLAND Schoeman and Margo Geer picked up their second wins of the weekend while Olympic medalists Matt Grevers and Darian Townsend earned their first during the second day of finals at the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational.

Wisconsin's Monika Stitski kicked off tonight's finals session with a dominating swim in the women's 400 IM. After touching sixth at the 100 meter mark, Stitski built a lead that she never relinquished, winning in 4:50.78 over Lakeside's Leah Stevens (4:53.22). Alexandra Suppan of the University of Denver took third in 4:55.40. Stitski's teammate at Wisconsin, Michael Weiss, topped the men's 400 IM field with a 4:27.33, narrowly out-touching Swim Pasadena's Young Tae Seo, who finished in 4:27.48. Wyoming's Trevor Levalley dipped under the Olympic Trials cut with a 4:29.91 for third.

The University of Arizona's Alyssa Anderson was the class of the field in the women's 200 free as she led from wire to wire and stopped the clock in 2:00.68. La Mirada Armada's Samantha Shellem swam a 2:02.98 for second while Wisconsin's Rebecka Palm grabbed third in 2:03.39. Tucson Ford's Darian Townsend, the runner-up in the 100 free last night, took home the victory in the 200 free tonight with a 1:49.66. Dominik Koll of the New York City Lions finished two seconds back in 1:51.69 while Club Hawkeye's Jordan Huff took third in 1:52.43.

Carmel's Lacey Locke had an amazing last 50 to pull away from the heat and win the women's 200 back in 2:17.05. Wisconsin's Hannah Ross, who flipped nearly a second and a half ahead at the final turn, settled for second in 2:17.33, ahead of another Carmel swimmer, Hannah House (2:18.02). Matt Grevers of Tucson Ford shaved almost four seconds off his prelim time to win the men's 200 back in 2:00.82, more than three seconds ahead of Wisconsin's Andrew Teduits (2:04.03). Cory Chitwood, a three-time NCAA champion in the 200 back at Arizona, touched third in 2:04.25.

Margo Geer swept the sprint freestyle events with another dominating swim. The University of Arizona product produced a 25.20 in the 50 free, well ahead of Wisconsin's Rebecca Thompson (25.55) and Rhiannon Jeffrey (25.62). Meanwhile, Phoenix Swim Club's Roland Schoeman added another win with a blistering performance in the men's 50. Schoeman swam a 22.00, tied for the 14th fastest time in the world this year, to easily outdistance Tucson Ford's Masayuki Kishida (22.31) and Simon Burnett (23.04).

In the women's 4×200 free relay, Carmel's Summer Brown (2:05.93), Margaret Ramsey (2:08.09), Jamie Skowronek (2:10.46) and Lacey Locke (2:08.80) put together the fastest time of 8:33.28. Rockwood Swim Club's Garin Marlow (1:59.30), Sean Fehr (1:57.39), Jonathan Glaser (1:59.24) and Kevin Poskin (2:00.96) posted the fastest time in the men's race at 7:56.89.
