Chesapeake Elite Pro-Am: Anthony Ervin Wins 100 Free to Conclude Comeback Meet

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma, December 18. THE Chesapeake Elite Pro-Am came to a close in Oklahoma City with comeback kid Anthony Ervin providing the headlines with a win in the men's 100 free.

Cal's Ervin held off Tucson Ford's Simon Burnett for the title in the blue-riband event, 42.65 to 42.73. Ervin won the 100 free at the 2001 World Championships in addition to his 50 free Olympic and World titles in 2000 and 2001, respectively. Burnett, meanwhile, won the Commonwealth Games in the 100 free in 2006. Stanford's Jason Dunford touched third in 43.34.

SwimMAC's Eugene Godsoe came out on top of a tightly-contested race in the men's 200 back. Godsoe won in 1:40.99, while Daytona Beach's Rex Tullius passed Minnetonka's David Plummer on the final two laps for second, 1:41.68 to 1:42.65. In the women's 200 back, Dallas Mustangs' Claire Brandt won in 1:58.41. Lobo's Madison Bridges took second in 2:01.16, and Mission Viejo's Marina Spadoni grabbed third in 2:01.61.

For the third time this weekend, FAST's Emily Brunemann took down Mission Viejo's Ashley Twitchell in a distance race, this time the women's 1650 free. Brunemann clocked 15:47.62, while Twitchell touched next in 15:52.99. Wildcat's Samantha Harding finished third in 16:20.74. FAST's Robert Margalis grabbed first in the men's 1650 in 15:07.07, while Mission Viejo went 2-3, with JP Arnold taking second in 15:23.08 and David Heron third in 15:39.90.

Mission Viejo went 1-2 in the women's 200 fly. Kathryn McLaughlin won in 1:59.97, while teammate Taylor Guy came in second in 2:04.29. Kansas City Blazers' Rilye Fries finished third in 2:05.40.

Results from the men's 200 fly, men's and women's 100 IM, and men's and women's 400 free relays were not available at press time.
