USA Swimming Long Course Junior Nationals: Kathleen Ledecky Closes Juniors With Meet Record

PALO ALTO, California, August 12. THE final night of action at the USA Swimming Long Course Junior Nationals featured another meet record en route to closing the curtain on a swift 2011 edition.

Women's 1500 free
Curl Burke's Kathleen Ledecky shot down the meet record in the metric mile with a 16:24.46. That effort eclipsed the 16:26.35 set by Kirsten Groome back in 2008. Clearwater's Rebecca Mann placed second in 16:38.26, while Waukesha's Jessica Wolf picked up third in 16:41.72.

Women's 200 IM
Ridgefield's Faith Martin claimed the medley event in 2:16.07, while Irvine Novaquatics' Ella Eastin touched second in 2:16.99. Crimson's Maggie D'Innocenzo snared third in 2:17.49. A total of 12 swimmers cleared the Olympics Trials cut of 2:19.49.

Men's 200 IM
Dynamo's Gunnar Bentz cruised to victory in the men's medley with a 2:02.71. Cabrillo Treshers' Andrew Porter turned in a second-place time of 2:03.46, while YMCA Hub Fins' Tynan Stewart wound up third in 2:03.71. 12 swimmers beat the Olympics Trials cut of 2:06.59.

Women's 50 free
Star's Faith Johnson snagged the women's splash-and-dash triumph in 25.83, while NASA Wildcat's Evan Swenson and Academy Bullets' Mimi Schneider tied for second with matching 26.13s. Six swimmers bettered the Olympic Trials cut of 26.39.

Men's 50 free
Erik Risolvato hit the wall in 22.74 to win the men's sprint. SwimAtlanta's Brent Murray took second in 23.18, while West Coast's Nicholas Soedel placed third in 23.23. Seven swimmers dipped under the Olympic Trials cut of 23.49.

Men's 800 free
Dynamo's Matias Koski clocked an 8:08.54 to win the men's distance event for the night. Sarasota Y's Derek Pridemore took second in 8:11.76, while Mission Viejo's Logan Redondo placed third in 8:12.15.
