USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Andrew Gemmell Outduels Sean Ryan for 1500 Free Crown

PALO ALTO, California, August 6. DELAWARE's Andrew Gemmell had too much in the tank for Scenic City's Sean Ryan as he powered through for the win in the men's 1500 free at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.

Gemmell knocked off Ryan, 15:01.31 to 15:01.43, in the metric mile. Gemmell and Ryan moved to 10th and 11th in the world rankings in the event to become the third and fourth best in the U.S. Chad La Tourette (14:52.36) and Peter Vanderkaay (14:54.99) are the two best Americans this year.

FAST's Michael Klueh took third in 15:04.24, while The Woodlands' Michael McBroom finished fourth in 15:06.22.

Badger's Ryan Feeley (15:06.48), Germantown's Arthur Frayler (15:10.06), Pilot's Evan Pinion (15:19.90), Mission Viejo's Joseph Arnold (15:25.12), FAST's Chip Peterson (15:29.69) and SwimAtlanta's William Freeman (15:33.85) rounded out the championship heat.
