USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Tucson Ford’s Matt Grevers Earns 200 Back Crown

PALO ALTO, California, August 6. TUCSON Ford's Matt Grevers held off Daytona Beach's Rex Tullius for the men's 200 back title at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.

Grevers picked up the title with a 1:57.26 to move to 11th in the world rankings. He now stands fourth in the U.S. behind Ryan Lochte (1:52.96), Tyler Clary (1:54.69) and Michael Phelps (1:57.05). Tullius, meanwhile, snatched second in 1:57.48 to take 14th in the world rankings.

SwimMAC's Nick Thoman (1:59.31), Bolles' Ryan Murphy (1:59.33), Trojan's James Lendrum (1:59.37), Corvallis' Jacob Pebley (1:59.49) all cleared 2:00 in the championship heat. Tucson Ford's Cory Chitwood (2:00.27), Stanford's Matt Thompson (2:02.26), Tucson Ford's Michael Sheppard (2:02.32) and Tucson Ford's Ellis Miller (2:02.34) also swam in the big final.

Rockville's Jack Conger broke 2:00 to win the B final in 1:59.98, while Rockville's Brady Fox knocked off Bluefish's Patrick Myers, 2:02.01 to 2:02.12, in the C final.
