PALO ALTO, California, August 5. BLUEFISH's Elizabeth Beisel, who just finished the FINA World Long Course Championships last week with a world title in the 400 IM, shrugged off some exhaustion to win the women's 200 back at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.

Beisel put together a strong time of 2:08.81 to earn her third national title in the event, and her third national title of the week. Beisel trailed NBAC's Elizabeth Pelton throughout the race before turning on the afterburners with a 32.34 in the final 50 meters for the win. Beisel went faster in the 200 back at Worlds with a seventh-ranked time of 2:07.82.

Pelton, meanwhile, checked in with a second-place 2:09.08 after leading most of the race. That time just missed her 15th-ranked season best of 2:09.07 from June. Mission Aurora's Bonnie Brandon cleared 2:10 for the first time with a third-place 2:09.91 to move to 24th in the world rankings.

Athens Bulldog Megan Romano (2:12.07), Crow Canyon's Madison White (2:12.89), FAST's Katie Hoff (2:12.96), Indiana's Ashley Jones (2:13.10), North Coast's Kendyl Stewart (2:13.13), Dynamo's Kylie Stewart (2:13.87) and Athens Bulldog Morgan Scroggy (2:15.29) also competed in the big finale.

Jillian Vitarius picked up the B final win in 2:12.95, setting up a situation in which the C final winner went faster. Stanford's Maya Dirado smoked the C final field with a 2:11.14, winning by more than two seconds over ASK's Dagny Knutson (2:13.40).
