USA Swimming Long Course Nationals: Jessica Hardy Cruises to 100 Breast Win

PALO ALTO, California, August 4. JESSICA Hardy, representing Trojan, cruised to victory in the women's 100 breast at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals.

Hardy, who is capable of a faster time as evidenced by her second-ranked 1:05.90 from May, was battling jetlag from her return trip from the FINA World Long Course Championships with a winning time of 1:06.81.

Tucson Ford's Annie Chandler turned on the jets in an attempt to run down Hardy, but settled for a personal best of 1:07.17. That swim pushed Chandler up to 10th in the world rankings with the swim. Curl Burke's Ellyn Baumgardner completed the top three in 1:08.20.

Wisconsin's Ashley Wanland (1:08.33), SwimMAC's Micah Lawrence (1:08.38), Minnesota's Haley Spencer (1:08.64), Nittany Lion Corrie Clark (1:08.67), WCAB's Kasey Carlson (1:08.81), Bluefish's Laura Sogar (1:09.07) and CCS's Laura Lindsay (1:09.26) rounded out the championship heat.

J-Hawk's Emily McClellan dipped under 1:09 in the B final with a top time of 1:08.43 to win the heat, while Ashley Specht of Indiana knocked off Missouri's Rachel Ripley, 1:09.33 to 1:09.73, for the C final victory.
