YMCA Long Course Nationals: West Shore Finishes Meet With Three More YMCA Records

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, August 1. IT was another good day for West Shore Y as the squad claimed three more YMCA records on the final day of competition.

West Shore Y's contingent of Lauren Schmittle, Alie Zelenky, Stephanie Kinsey and Leah Gingrich opened the evening with a YMCA-record time of 1:48.36 in the women's 200 free relay. That time cleared the 2003 standard of 1:48.91 set by Plymouth Community.

Gingrich followed with a YMCA-record time of 2:09.96 in the women's 200 fly to crush the previous standard of 2:15.81 set by Emily Christy of Boyertown in 2005. Emily Weaner, 16, of West Shore took second in 2:18.53, while Addie Carne, 17, of Middle Tyger placed third in 2:18.70.

West Shore also snatched the women's 400 medley relay YMCA record. Kinsey, Zelenky, Gingrich and Claire Loht dropped a time of 4:22.96 to wipe out the 4:24.11 set by Boyertown in 2006.

In other action, Lauren Solernou, 15, of Cheshire won the women's 50 back in 30.04. Anna Gibas, 16, of Greensburg touched second in 30.60, while Sarah Galvin, 17, of BR Ryall took third in 30.88.

Stephanie Conklin of Blue Ash claimed the women's 100 breast in 1:12.64, while Kim Jerome, 15, of Cheshire finished second in 1:13.57. Laura Gorinski, 17, of Greensburg placed third in 1:14.10.

Kelly Ann Baird, 16, of Winston-Salem led teammate Caroline Smith, 17, to a 17:13.25 to 17:15.56, top two sweep for her team. Laura Simon, 17, of Middle Tyger finished third in 17:18.20.

The men completed the night without a YMCA record. Middle Tyger's Greg Morgan, Chris Reinke, Lee Groseclose and Graham Kauffman won the men's 200 free relay in 1:37.02.

Matt Navata, 16, of Montclair followed with a victory in the men's 200 fly in 2:05.60. David Igraham, 15, of Middle Tyger turned in a second-place 2:07.32, while Brad Bielak, 17, of Ridgewood grabbed third in 2:07.80.

Jim Barbiere of Countryside captured the men's 50 back in 27.45. James Wells, 16, of Bath Area touched out Kevin Marsteller, 17, of West Shore for second, 27.71 to 27.77.

Cheshire's Jack Pretto, Austin Mizzell, Travis McNamara and Ben Smith captured the men's 400 medley relay in 3:58.23.

Ty Perkins, 17, of South Family dominated the men's 1500 free in 16:09.37 with Travis Green, 17, of Huntington (16:25.37) and Alex Carr of Rock Hill (16:29.55) completing the podium.

Men's 100 breast results were unavailable at press time.
