YMCA Long Course Nationals: YMCA National Records Tumble

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, July 29. At least three YMCA national standards fell during the first day of swimming at the YMCA Long Course National Championships held in Maryland.

Leah Gingrich of West Shore crushed the YMCA record in the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:16.33. That performance wiped out the 2:18.89 set by Ashley Jones in 2004. Haley Lips, 14, of Middle Tyger finished second in 2:21.73, while her teammate Addie Carne, 17, touched third in 2:23.45.

Meanwhile, Scott Marino of Fanwood Scotch destroyed his YMCA record in the men's 200 IM with a readout of 2:05.19. That clocking cleared the 2:07.29 he set last year. Matt Navata, 16, of Montclair placed second in 2:09.85, while Matt Salig, 16, of Lionville earned third in 2:10.20.

The women's 50 free meet record also fell. Emily Lloyd, 15, of Anne Arundel clocked a time of 26.25 to beat Gingrich's 26.36. Both times surpassed the 26.49 set by Claire Woodall-Gainey in 2002. Meanwhile, Anna Munger of Upper Main Line took third in 27.12.

Cheshire's women's 200 medley relay of Lauren Solernou, Kim Jerome, Hollis Capuano and Mikki Morr became the first team in YMCA history under 2:00 with a 1:59.83. That time eclipsed the 2:01.17 set by Boyertown in 2006.
