Marshall, T2’s Katie Kramer Becomes Youngest American Female To Complete Strait of Gibraltar Swim

STRAIGHT OF GIBRALTAR, May 11. KATIE Kramer, 21, became the youngest American woman to successfully swim the Strait of Gibraltar today.

Kramer, who swims for Marshall University and represents T2 Aquatics on the club circuit, finished the swim in 4 hours and 28 minutes according to Naples News.

With swims like this, there is usually a week-long window during which a swimmer makes the decision to make the attempt. Luckily for Kramer, she only had to wait a day during her May 10-16 window before conditions were right for the attempt.

Kramer undertook the swim to raise money for the Greater Naples YMCA, which needs $50,000 to re-strip the Norris Aquatic Center pool.

“I am so motivated by the fact that this community has been so supportive and that so many people are behind me and (I don’t want) to let them down,” Kramer wrote on her swim’s Facebook page. “I just want to make my school, and my community, and my family proud.”

T2’s Paul Yetter texted Swimming World this afternoon upon hearing about the successful swim, and was rightfully an ecstatic coach.

“Crazy stuff,” Yetter texted. “A sprinter too! This kid is a rock star!”
