Poland Pays Plenty

BALTIC SEA, Poland. June 20. TOMASZ Pąchalski announced the entry deadline of June 30th for professional and amateur swimmers who wish to compete in the BCT Gdynia Marathon, a 18.5 km swim in Poland limited to 15 swimmers on August 26th.

Pąchalski explains, “As one of the world's longest open water swims, the BCT Gdynia Marathon race is from the Hel Peninsula to a beach of Gdynia for a prize pool of $28,000 including two $10,000 first prizes to the top female and male winners.

Krzysztof Usielski, President of the Polish Swimming Federation is officially supporting BCT Gdynia Marathon. We will also invite FINA judges who will oversee the rules and regulations.”

The application deadline is June 30th, but already at least three world-class professional marathon swimmers have signed on to compete. Benjamin Konschack, the 2011 Germany 25 km champion, Pilar Geijo, 2011 World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year, and the leading FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix circuit swimmer Trent Grimsey from Australia will participate. “I will participate in the BCT Gdynia Marathon for the first time,” says Grimsey. “The waters are demanding. Despite a relatively small number of swimmers, the race promises to be interesting. I do hope the event will become a regular part of the global swimming events calendar.”
