Jamie Patrick Successfully Completes 111-Mile River Swim

SACRAMENTO, California, August 21. LAST night, Jamie Patrick completed a 31-hour swim of the 111-mile Sacramento River, according to the Sacramento Bee. He swam from Princeton, California to Sacramento's Tower Bridge.

"All in all, I feel pretty good. I'm very excited to be done," Patrick told the Sacramento Bee. "I had a difficult night, and didn't think I'd get through it, but here I am. It was a pretty magical swim."

Patrick, 40, did the swim as a charity fundraiser for Buena Vista Auxiliary, which promotes literacy for schoolchildren. Patrick has volunteered his time for the initiative during the course of the past five years.

The swim was initially meant to be a world record attempt for the longest open water swim, but it was not eligible as Patrick was instructed to wear a wetsuit. Patrick is an ultramarathoner who last did a double-crossing of Lake Tahoe.
