Speedo Performance of the Week, Presented By Pace Club: Reece Whitley’s 200 Breaststroke

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 1. THIS past week featured a few small meets around the United States, with several notable names getting in some more race preparation before August’s nationals and junior nationals.

Reece Whitley wasn’t waiting for the championship phase of the long course season to make his mark in the long course pool in 2014. The 14-year-old provided the showstopper in Jacksonville, Florida, on Sunday at the TYR Bolles School Sharks Classic, winning the 200 breast with a remarkable 2:19.74.

That was almost a full second faster than the previous national age group record of 2:20.48, and was almost four seconds faster than his previous lifetime best. Whitley continues to impress in the breaststrokes, and we can only wonder how much faster he can swim before he turns 15 next year.

Congratulations, Reece. You’ve won the Speedo Performance of the Week!
