Streamlined News: Agnel’s Big Move, Brazil’s World Team

PHOENIX, Arizona, May 21. YANNICK Agnel has been looking around for a place to train in the United States, and it appears he has found it. The French sports newspaper L'Equipe reports that the 200 free Olympic champion will work with Bob Bowman this summer in preparation for a reduced schedule at the world championships. Agnel will only swim relays, stating his search for a place to train outside of France has taken away from his ability to effectively prepare for individual events in Barcelona. Agnel will be training alongside Allison Schmitt, who won the women's 200 free in London. Today in a press conference, Agnel said a disagreement between him and longtime coach Fabrice Pellerin sparked the decision to make a change in training location, and that Bowman will likely be working with Agnel through the Rio Olympics.

Brazil released the roster of 24 swimmers who are scheduled to attend the world championships this summer. It appears Cesar Cielo will only be defending his world title in the 50 freestyle, and will not swim the 100 free as well. Brazil's other reigning world champion, Felipe Silva, will be staying home, unable to meet the qualifying time needed to get on the team and defend his world title in the 50 breast.
