Streamlined News: Rick Curl in Police Custody; Two Big College Dual Meets Set for Today

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 25. RICK Curl turned himself in today to police in the ongoing investigation of allegations that he continually had a sexual relationship with an underage swimmer in the 1980s. Though Curl repeatedly had sex with the former Kelly Davies over a period of at least four years, he is only being charged with one count of child abuse, according to the Montgomery County police. Curl has already received his punishment from USA Swimming in the form of a lifetime ban and resigned from the club he founded, the Curl-Burke Swim Club, now called Nation's Capital Swim Club. The Washington Post is reporting that Curl is facing a preliminary hearing on November 15.

Georgia and Florida, two of the top swim teams in Division I collegiate swimming, will square off today in a dual meet in Athens, Georgia, in a preview of the football game taking place on Saturday. Both teams will feature Olympians, including Georgia's Allison Schmitt and Florida's Elizabeth Beisel on the women's side and Georgia's Andrew Gemmell and Florida's Sebastien Rousseau on the men's side. Though early in the season, the meet is bound to bring out some fast racing. Last year, the Florida and Georgia men tied in their dual meet, so each team will be fighting for an outright win today.

The University of Tennessee is also racing today in their home pool, taking on the University of Louisville. The Cardinals will be tough on the men's side, featuring junior Joao de Lucca, who was a finalist in the 100 and 200 freestyles at last season's NCAA championships. The Volunteers women's team will be looking to senior Kelsey Floyd, a finalist in both butterfly events at NCAAs last March.

We'll bring you results from both meets on swimmingworld.com.
