Streamlined News: Swimmers’ Tweets; Rick Curl Under Investigation

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 25. THE popularity of Twitter is allowing Olympians to show the world what they are up to in the final days leading up to the Olympic Games. Missy Franklin was on a brief sightseeing tour of London this morning, and tweeted this photo of her in front of the London Bridge, which she mistakenly called the Tower of London.

Natalie Coughlin tweeted out this photo of her with eight of her teammates and Ryan Seacrest on the London set of the Today Show, where they talked about, among many things, getting ready to swim this weekend. In case you're wondering, the other eight in the photo are Kate Ziegler, Peter Vanderkaay, Kara Lynn Joyce, Jessica Hardy, Nathan Adrian, Brendan Hansen, Dana Vollmer and Michael Phelps.

And Nathan Adrian tweeted this photo of his roommate Matt Grevers, complaining about Grevers' mess and asking his followers to get Matt to clean up.

Pretty much every athlete with a Twitter account will be posting during the Olympics, so be sure to check back with your favorite athlete during the Games for more interesting comments and photos from London.

Some sad news to report today on another coach under fire for a sexual relationship with a swimmer. According to a story today in the Washington Post, renowned coach Rick Curl is under investigation after a former swimmer came forward with allegations that she and Curl had a sexual relationship starting when she was 13 and he was 33 years old. The story claims that Curl continued the relationship for about four years and had sex with the swimmer on out-of-town trips and sometimes, even at the swimmer's home. The swimmer, Kelley Davies, now goes by her married name Kelly Currin and talked about the financial settlement Curl paid her and her parents to keep the relationship quiet and avoid a lawsuit. Now, Curl is under investigation by USA Swimming after the organization received documents relating to the relationship and subsequent cover-up. Curl founded the Curl-Burke Swim Club, which has gone on to produce a string of Olympians through the years, including 2012 Olympian Katie Ledecky, who we should stress was not coached by Curl. Rick Curl has been in a mostly administrative role at the club for a few years.
