Streamlined News: D’Arcy and Monk in Hot Water, Muffat Highlights Day Two in Canet, South Africa Names Olympians

PHOENIX, Arizona, June 7. KENRICK Monk and Nick D'Arcy are back in hot water with Swimming Australia today after photos surfaced on Facebook of the two of them posing with a handgun and rifles at an American gun shop during their stay in the country recently. Swimming Australia demanded that the photos be removed since it went against their social media policies, and the photos were quickly removed. It remains to be seen what action Swimming Australia will take, as the two have just returned to Australia after spending a few weeks competing in North America. Monk was in the news for lying about the circumstances behind the bruises he experienced after falling off a skateboard, and D'Arcy's troubles go back to his bar brawl in 2008 with a fellow swimmer.

After yesterday's world textile best in the 200 free at the Canet stop of the Mare Nostrum series, all eyes were on Camille Muffat in the 400 freestyle today, and she delivered with a strong 4:02.97. It's a little more than a second off her textile best of 4:01.13 from the French Olympic Trials, but stands as her second-fastest swim of the year. Only Muffat and Rebecca Adlington have gone under 4:03 so far this year.

Other top swims include a 2:08.94 from Great Britain's Lizzie Simmonds in the 200 backstroke, a 1:00.70 from Felipe Lima of Brazil in the 100 breast, a 48.89 from Cuba's Hanser Garcia in the men's 100 free and a 1:55.46 by South Africa's Chad Le Clos.

With 50 days until the start of the London Olympics, South Africa officially named its Olympic teams yesterday. Roland Schoeman will be going to his fourth Olympic Games, while his 400 free relay teammate from 2004, Darian Townsend, will be attending Olympics number three. Chad Le Clos will be racing multiple times in London, Cameron van der Burgh will be looking to get a medal in the 100 breast and Wendy Trott will be the top female on the team, racing in the 800 free.
