PHOENIX, Arizona, April 23. THE TYR Swim Meet of Champions in Mission Viejo, California, has been renamed the TYR Fran Crippen Swim Meet of Champions after the late swimmer who trained in Mission Viejo for many years. The meet is typically a great place to see some of the best swimmers from California a few weeks before the year's big meet.

Jessica Hardy and Nathan Adrian won both the 50 and 100 freestyles, with both swimming their best times of the season, or very close to it. Hardy's 25.03 in the 50 makes her the fastest American in the event, and her 54.54 in the 100 makes her second in the country. Adrian was able to improve on the 100 free time he swam at the Indianapolis Grand Prix, where he swam with a ripped suit, from 48.62 to 48.54. And he went a 21.90 in the 50 free as well, one of only two people to swim under 22 seconds more than once unshaved this year.

Tyler Clary had a tough double on Friday, winning the 200 fly with a 1:58.13 and the 200 back in 1:57.63. Yesterday, Tom Shields took down a pool record that had stood since 1986 by the great Pablo Morales in the men's 100 fly with a fast 52.90. He's now the fourth-fastest American in the event this year behind Tyler McGill, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte.

Also yesterday we saw 40-year-old Steve West add a second event to his Olympic Trials schedule when he swam a 1:04.68 in the 100 breast, one hundredth of a second faster than the Trial cut. West is already going to swim the 200 breast in Omaha, and improved on his seed time this weekend with a 2:19.07.

South Africa wrapped up competition at the Olympic Trials over the weekend, and 12 swimmers posted automatic qualifying times. Chad Le Clos will swim four individual events in London, and could likely be on all three relays. After five months of coming close to the FINA A cut in the 50 free, Roland Schoeman finally got under it on Saturday with a 22.08. And Wendy Trott got her FINA A cut in the 800 free with an 8:29.79 in prelims. You can see the full list of South Africans who posted A times on our website, swimmingworld.com. The official Olympic roster should be announced soon.

The United States had a great meet in Tijuana, the last stop of the FINA Diving World Series. Nick McCrory and David Boudia won the synchro platform event by just two points over Mexico's German Sanchez and Ivan Garcia. Great Britain's Tom Daley and Peter Waterfield were five points behind Mexico for third. Daley would return to win the individual platform event over Boudia, and Paola Espinosa got the crowd going with a victory in the women's three-meter final. China would win the other five events convincingly, in some cases by as much as 30 points.
