David Radcliff Smashes U.S. Masters Swimming National Records at Nationals

SANTA CLARA, California, May 1. THE first night of U.S. Masters Nationals got underway today in Santa Clara with Oregon’s David Radcliff putting on a show.

Radcliff, the 75-79 age group record holder in the men’s 1650-yard freestyle with a 20:25.49 from 2009, has since aged up to the 80-84 division as an 80-year-old. Radcliff certainly didn’t waste much time in obliterating a national age group record in the mile this evening.

Radcliff raced his way to a 21:54.87, which crushed the previously listed national mark of 24:22.59 set by Bumpy Jones back in 2013.

Radcliff didn’t just get the record in the 1650, he also had some split records as well as sometimes happens in the 1650-yard freestyle event when someone ages up.

Radcliff split a 2:30.66 at the 200 to break Graham Johnston’s national record of 2:33.31. Radcliff also posted a split of 6:27.81 to demolish Bumpy Jones’ 500-yard free record of 6:53.87. Radcliff then absolutely blasted Jones’ 1000-yard free record of 14:24.73 with a 13:10.14 split at the 1000.
