Emily Silver at 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials

SAN JOSE, California, February 7. SWIMOUTLET.com has made the move to hire 2008 Olympic silver medalist Emily Silver as its new Marketing Communications Associate. Silver will not only be heavily involved in SwimOutlet, she will also be part of parent company Spiraledge's other entities RunOutlet, YogaOutlet and SurfOutlet.

Silver will be handling a bevy of responsibilities, including social media, sports marketing and public relations for all of Spiraledge's online brands. Silver previously worked with USA Swimming as the Athlete Relations Manager, where she interacted with U.S. National Team members and handled the USA Swimming Family Program at the 2012 London Olympic. She's also had experience in more than just a swimming brand with time at lululemon, a yoga-based clothing brand.

"We're pleased to add someone with Emily's credentials to our marketing department here at SwimOutlet," said CMO Alexander Sienkiewicz. "Having someone who has achieved swimming success at the highest international levels and knows the sport so well from all sides will a huge asset as we continue to grow SwimOutlet and our other line-up of brands."


Silver earned a silver medal as part of the 400 freestyle relay for the U.S. at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and is largely known for doing so after breaking her hand at 2008 Trials. That was a particularly dramatic Olympic team training camp that also included news that Eric Shanteau had cancer, Jessica Hardy had tested positive for clenbuterol and Dara Torres' coach Michael Lohberg was struck with aplastic anemia, a condition he later died of in 2011.

Silver is returning to the Bay Area, where she had an outstanding career as a California Golden Bear.

This is one of a trio of moves that have occurred within USA Swimming external affairs department.

Jamie Olsen left USA Swimming after seven years to become Arena North America's Manager of Marketing, Communications and Events. Olsen finished her time at USA Swimming as the Director of Marketing and Brand Development, having morphed into that role after previously serving as the top media relations person in the organization. She oversaw public relations for one of the most turbulent times in USA Swimming, one which included a positive test for Hardy, Fran Crippen's death, the techsuit soap opera and sexual abuse issues within the sport.

Additionally, Matt Whewell recently left USA Swimming to become the Communications Manager for the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball. Whewell had served as the Public Relations and Digital Communications Coordinator at USA Swimming, but returned to his roots as he had already spent time with the Cleveland Indians and Atlanta Braves.

USA Swimming is currently in the interview stages to replace these three professionals.
