Industry News: Janet Evans: A Day in the Life Video

PORTLAND, Oregon, May 11. IN a newly launched web-exclusive video, “A Day in the Life,” Janet Evans, one of the greatest distance swimmers of all time, is giving fans a glimpse into her daily routine as she attempts to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games. In the video, Janet offers viewers a sneak peek at her day-to-day life — swimming, training, interviews and family time — as she prepares for next month's Olympic Trials.

After hanging up her competitive swimsuit in 1996, Janet established herself as a commercial spokesperson, author, reality TV personality and highly sought-after circuit speaker. With the goal of qualifying for the London Summer Olympic Games on the horizon, “A Day in the Life” highlights a rigorous routine that's a far cry from the daily grind of the last 16 years — and a stark contrast to her prior Olympic days when she wasn't balancing motherhood. For this mom of two, a 4:30 a.m. wake-up call starts the day, followed by a team swim session, weight training, Skype and TV interviews and then swim lessons with the kids.

Over a career that spanned the Seoul (1988), Barcelona (1992) and Atlanta (1996) Olympic Games, Janet won four Olympic gold medals and was the first female to win back-to-back Olympic and world titles. The world records she held in the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events were among the longest-standing in the sport's history.

“I'm excited about this new chapter in my life, and I'm happy to bring my fans this special access,” said Evans. “It feels great to be training hard again and competing in the sport I love in hopes of advancing to the Olympic Games this summer.”

Currently a spokesperson for Arena — one of the world's leading swimwear brands — Janet also acts as an ambassador for SwimAmerica. A national learn-to-swim program, SwimAmerica is operated by the American Swimming Coaches Association through more than 500 program directors at over 900 pools across the United States.
