Lander Valley Claims 18th Straight Wyoming 3A Boys Title

GILLETTE, Wyoming, February 28. LANDER Valley High School collected its 18th straight boys title at the Wyoming 3A High School Swimming and Diving Championships February 27-28 in Gillette. Lander Valley swimmers scored 274.5 points to runner-up Powell’s 195.5. Worland claimed third with 176.5 points, followed by Rawlins (154) and Kemmerer (147.5).

Lander Valley’s sole individual champion was sophomore Ryan Crawford. He improved on his fifth-place showing last year with this year’s 1:01.06 in the 100 breast, and posted a third-place 2:04.76 in the 200 IM, just behind junior teammate Tucker Russell’s 2:04.48. Russell was also second in the 100 back (56.40).

Also earning second place in two events for Lander Valley was senior Drew Gramlich, who tied with Powell’s Ben Wetzel in the 200 free (1:49.77), and the 500 free (5:06.52). Wetzel, a junior, would later in the meet improve on his fourth-place finish from 2013 (5:13.44) with his winning 5:00.47 in the 500 free.

Worland senior Austin Rettinghouse secured his third straight diving title with 447.40 points. Rettinghouse’s teammate, junior Connor Petty, finished first in both the 200 IM (1:59.16) and 100 free (47.71). Zach Cain, a junior at Rawlins, put together victories in the 100 back (54.88) and the 100 fly (54.67).

Sublette County’s Taner Trujillo ended his high school career with a win in the 200 free (1:48.97).

Rawlins’ quartet of Zach Cain, junior Aidan Cain, plus sophomores Aaron Harshman and Bryar Goodwine, combined for a 1:43.64 victory in the 200 medley relay and picked up a second triumph in the 400 free relay (3:25.08). Kemmerer’s squad of Torin Boyd (junior), Luis Reinalter (senior), Brandon Ellis (junior) and Garrett Walton (senior) posted a first-place 1:31.69 in the 200 free relay.
