Carsten Vissering Breaks National Independent High School Mark In 100 Breast

GERMANTOWN, Maryland, February 8. KATIE Ledecky wasn’t the only one to break a major record at the D.C. Metro high school swimming championships this weekend, as her Nation’s Capital Swim Club teammate Carsten Vissering took down the independent high school record in the 100 breaststroke.

Vissering, a junior at Georgetown Prep, swam an incredible 53.49 to break Patrick Fowler’s 16-year-old record of 53.66. Fowler’s record had stood as the overall national record until last May, when Steven Stumph led a trio of swimmers under his mark in California. Stumph’s 53.39 survives as the overall national record.

While Stumph split 25.21 at the 50-yard mark, Vissering was only 25.40, but outsplit Stumph by .09 in the final 50 yards. Naturally, Vissering obliterated his lifetime best of 53.87, swum at last December’s USA Swimming nationals.
