Louisville Lady Cardinals Pick Up Verbal Commitment of Emily Sarratt

HILLSBOROUGH, North Carolina, October 22. THE Louisville Cardinals picked up a verbal commitment this week when Emily Sarratt announced her plan to swim for the new member of the Atlantic Coast Conference beginning in the 2014-2015 season. Sarratt, who currently attends Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill in North Carolina and currently swims for Duke Aquatics, told Swimming World of her choice on Monday.

Sarratt expressed her excitement after making her decision. “I’m so excited to be a Lady Card. The team and the coaches are amazing and I know they will help me to prosper as a student-athlete.” She provides a boost to a squad that has finished in the top-25 at NCAAs the past two years.

Listed as the 12th-ranked recruit in North Carolina on CollegeSwimming.com, Sarratt specializes in the breaststroke and IM events. She has a top time of 1:02.86 in the 100 breast, which qualified her for the 2013 U.S. Open Championships, a time which would have nearly put her into the ACC final of the event in 2013. Sarratt could make an impact on the conference level in the 200 breast as well, where she has a best time of 2:19.48. Other top events for Sarratt include the 200 IM (2:04.12), 400 IM (4:28.11), and 100 fly (56.92).

Sarratt and the Cardinals will compete in the ACC beginning next year. A member of the old Big East, Louisville decided to remain with that conference — now known as the American Athletic Conference — for one season before entering the ACC in the summer of 2014.

Sarratt also has strong experience in long course racing, as she swam three events at USA Swimming’s Junior Nationals in August. At the meet, she recorded lifetime bests in the 100 breast (1:14.96), 200 breast (2:42.92), and 200 IM (2:25.42).
