Cavaliers Corral Trio of Strong Recruits Including Top Ranked Recruits in Arizona, New York

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia, October 10. THE University of Virginia just corralled a trio of top flight recruits, much to the likely pleasure of head coach Augie Busch.

Scottsdale’s giant 6-5 Nicholas Magana is a big get for Busch, in more ways than one, as Busch dipped into his old stomping grounds to get the top-ranked recruit out of the State of Arizona.

Magana, who preps at Desert Mountain High, will be challenging some of California’s Tyler Messerschmidt’s state record times this year. He’s a big sprinter with a 44.97 in the 100-yard free and a 51.15 in the 100-meter free with some room to grow both physically and in terms of his speed. He also has a 23.68 in the 50-meter free, as well as a 20.99 in the 50-yard free.

Laine Reed, the fifth-ranked female recruit out of the State of Texas, will also join the Cavaliers from Longhorn Aquatics and S.F. Austin High as Busch also ventured back to the Lone Star State for another get. Busch recently served as the head coach at the University of Houston.

Reed will add some depth to Busch’s sprint to middle-distance events. Her top times are a 56.76 in the 100-meter free and a 2:03.21 in the 200-meter free. She also has versatility to the middle-distance events with a 2:00.52 in the 200-yard back, a 2:18.50 in the 200-meter back, a 4:20.24 in the 400-meter free and a 4:51.36 in the 500-yard free.

UVA then snagged the top ranked recruit in the State of New York when Tonawanda Titan Dina Rommel committed today as well.

Rommel is a sprint freestyle/flyer with a top time of 26.15 in the 50-meter free and a 23.32 in the 50-yard free. She also has a 55.46 in the 100-yard fly as well as a 58.01 in the 100-meter free, and even has a 1:03.35 in the 100-meter fly.

That’s a lot of talent all in one fell swoop for the Cavaliers.
