N.C. State Keeping Local Talent Home With Lauren Rhodes Commitment

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, September 30. N.C. State might not be pulling in the amount of numbers of some of the higher echelon teams in recruiting, but they certainly are scoring commitments from some bluechip recruits in the Class of 2014.

On the men’s side, the Wolfpack already has No. 16 Anton Ipsen and No. 23 Colin Ellington committed out of the Class of 2014. Now, they have earned the services of SwimMAC’s Lauren Rhodes, a multiple state champion out of North Carolina who is ranked 22nd in the Class of 2014 by CollegeSwimming.com.

“Coach [Braden] Holloway and Coach [Todd] DeSorbo are great motivators in and out of the pool,” Rhodes said. “I know I will swim fast and contribute to something great at NC State and I couldn’t be more excited! GO PACK!”

Rhodes, the second-ranked swimmer out of the state of North Carolina, will definitely provide the Wolfpack with an additional threat in the ever-important sprint freestyle events at the NCAA level.

Rhodes owns a 23.09 in the 50-yard free, albeit from the 2011 Southeastern Age Group Championships. She’s also had some more recent success in the 100 yard and meter freestyle. She’s posted a 49.74 in the 100-yard free at the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior Nationals as well as a 56.95 in the 100-meter free at sectionals in 2012.

Rhodes also has some longer distance versatility with a 1:47.98 from the North Carolina State High School Championships earlier this year while representing Charlotte Catholic High School in the 3A division. She’s enjoyed some serious success on the high school stage with a boatload of individual and relay titles while swimming for Charlotte Catholic.
