Auburn Adds Distance Freestyle Depth With No. 65 Logan Samuelson Commitment

FORT MYERS, Florida, September 15. AUBURN head coach Brett Hawke scored his second top 75 national recruit today when distance freestyle Logan Samuelson, who competes for Swim Florida and Fort Myers High School, made it official with his commitment.

Samuelson, who is ranked 65th in the country by CollegeSwimming.com, has some strong ability in the middle-to-distance freestyle events. His top times are in the 500-yard free (4:22.89) and 1000-yard free (9:10.29), as both as U.S. Open cuts from the 2012 Speedo Junior Nationals and the 2013 Florida Spring Senior Championships, respectively.

“I loved the team and coaches,” Samuelson said of his commitment. “It felt like I was already part of the family. War Eagle!”

Samuelson also has some ability in the long course distance freestyle events. He owns top times of 8:11.78 in the 800-meter and 15:40.36 in the 1500-meter freestyle events. He clocked his 800 at the 2013 U.S. Open, while posting the metric mile performance at the 2013 Speedo Junior Nationals.

He joins No. 28 Josh Booth of Bolles School as early commitments to the Tigers. With nearly all of the top 25 boys in the Class of 2014 still in play (other than No. 22 Colin Ellington who is headed to N.C. State), the clear cut winner in the boys team rankings is far from decided.
