Carondelet First High School To Clear 3:21 in Girls 400 Free Relay

CONCORD, California, May 18. SHORTLY after Campolindo's Steven Stumph dropped the fastest boys 100-yard breaststroke record of all time in high school competition, the Carondelet girls became the first prep quartet under 3:21 in the girls 400-yard free relay at the California Interscholastic Federation North Coast Sectional Championships.

Carondelet put together a sterling time of 3:20.42 (Chelsea Chenault 49.27, Natalie Amberg 51.19, Maddie Murphy 49.82, Madison White 50.14) to become the first high school squad under 3:20. The independent school dropped the previous overall and independent school record of 3:21.20 set just last week by JSerra High School at the CIF South Sectional championships.

The JSerra foursome of Kaitlyn Albertoli, Karli Thuen, Rebecca Millard and Katie McLaughlin put together a 3:21.20 last week. The swim was split 50.39, 51.68, 49.97, 49.16 en route to the now-broken standard.

Notably, Hershey's time of 3:22.85 from 2011 still stands as the national public school record.
