Five-Star Recruit Hellen Moffitt Chooses North Carolina

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 15. NORTH Carolina recently picked up the commitment of Swimming World five-star recruit Hellen Moffitt as she chose to become a future Tar Heel. North Carolina head coach Rick DeSelm is definitely building up some of his depth with his first three recruits.

Moffitt, who trains with Machine Aquatics out of Arlington, Va., and preps at West Potomac High School, is a backstroker with butterfly versatility. She already owns an NCAA Division I B cut in the 200-yard back with a time of 1:59.07, while also owning swift long course meter times in the 100-meter back (1:03.22), 200-meter back (2:17.32) and 100-meter fly (1:02.42).

“I chose the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill because it is a top-ranked university with a great business school and a strong swimming program with excellent coaches,” Moffitt told Swimming World. “I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to UNC's continued success. I know my swimming will continue to improve in college under the guidance of Coach Rich DeSelm and Coach Mike Litzinger. I am so excited to be a Tar Heel!”

The commitment gives North Carolina its third recruit out of the Class of 2013. Moffitt is ranked 62nd in the country by CollegeSwimming.com, and is the second-ranked swimmer in Virginia. Meanwhile, 52nd-ranked Abigail Fisher out of Lakeland Hills Family YMCA in N.J. also has pledged to become a Tar Heel after her senior season. UNC also earned 110th-ranked Catherine Hulsey's pledge. Hulsey trains with Georgia Coastal Aquatic Team in Georgia.
