High School State Championships: CIF North Coast Sectionals Boys, Girls

CONCORD, California, May 21. THE San Ramon High School girls team and the Campolindo boys squad emerged as champions of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) North Coast Sectional Championships May 17-19 in Concord.

The San Ramon girls scored 341 points for their title, ahead of Carondelet (249), Amador Valley (163), Campolindo (139) and Marin Academy (99). San Ramon was led by its victorious 200 medley relay team of Jenny Barcellona, Heidi Poppe, Marissa Neel and Cailey Steffens, who combined for a 1:42.36. Poppe scored an individual victory in the 100 breast (1:00.91).

Foothill's Celina Li and Carondelet's Chelsea Chenault each grabbed two titles, including one CIF North Coast record apiece. Li bettered the 100 fly mark with her 53.13 and cruised to a 1:58.37 in the 200 IM. Chenault's 4:38.05 in the 500 free was good for a CIF mark and posted a 1:44.76 first-place time in the 200 free.

Chenault's teammate, Madison White, also took home two titles with her 50.19 in the 100 free and 54.30 in the 100 back. In the 50 free, Amador Valley's Iris Brand cranked out a 23.31, and Irvington's Emilie Weideman was the top diver with her 432.25, ahead of Carondelet's Brooke Osborn (425.05).

Sectional records went by the wayside in both girls freestyle relay events. Marin Academy's Tai Hallstein, Madeleine Salesky, Isabelle Kitze and Charlotte Kamai combined for a 1:34.82 in the 200 free relay. Carondelet's Chenault and White were joined by Nicole Palmer and Natalie Amberg for a 3:26.01 in the 400 free relay.

Campolindo's boys total of 246 points put them on top in the boys race. They were followed by Miramonte (204), San Ramon (191.5), Terra Linda (171) and Amador Valley (154).

Two of Campolindo's swimmers put together two NCS sectional records each to pace the Cougars. Sven Campbell lowered standards in both the 100 free (44.22) and 100 back (48.16), and Steven Stumph rewrote the record book in the 100 breast (54.06) and 200 IM (1:47.52). Also setting a sectional standard was Las Lomas' Jackson Miller (200 free, 1:36.85).

Campolindo's 200 medley relay team of Campbell, Stumph, Jonathan Ratchford and Robbie Ashby combined for a 1:32.99 sectional record. Terra Linda's Nick Bigot, Robert Heim, R.J. Williams and Alan Winder bettered the NCS mark in the 200 free relay (1:23.35). San Ramon's Justin Roberto, Tyler Martin, Nick Pasichuke and Clayton Young put together a 3:05.07 win in the 400 free relay.

Terra Linda's Winder topped the field in the 100 fly (49.18). Others who placed first included David Morgan from De La Salle (50 free, 20.62), Nick Silverthorn of Granada (500 free, 4:27.68) and Asher Lichtig from Acalanes (1-meter diving, 446.95 points).
