High School State Championships: Wyoming 3A, 4A Girls

GILLETTE, Wyoming, October 30. JACKSON Hole (3A) and Cheyenne East (4A) grabbed team titles at the Wyoming Girls State High School Championships Oct. 25-27 in Gillette.

Division 3A
Jackson Hole's Lady Broncs collected 288.5 points for the 3A victory Oct. 25-26, led by freshman Kiana Phelps (100 free, 53.71; 200 free, 1:59.59) and junior Connor Tarver (100 back, 58.74; 200 IM, 2:11.71). Jackson Hole also nabbed first place in all three relays. Tarver and Phelps connected with seniors Flynn Guerrieri and Becca Hamilton in the 200 medley (1:54.05); Guerreri led freshman Elsa Smith, plus juniors Hanna Todd and Kelly Krause, to the 200 free relay win (1:45.40); and Phelps, sophomore Jaime Pardee, Hamilton and Tarver took charge of the 400 free (3:43.36).

Buffalo junior Hannah Chapin captured the 50 free in 25.00, and classmate Gracie Meacham was the top diver, scoring 374.60 points. Senior Caley Stafford stroked to a first-place 1:11.04 in the 100 breast. Also scoring victories were Rawlins sophomore Katelyn Olson (500 free, 5:33.39) and Worland sophomore Carolyn Kennedy (100 fly, 1:03.05).

Lander High School picked up second place with 229 points, followed by Buffalo (174), Rawlins (143) and Worland (97.5, just ahead of Powell's 96).

Division 4A
Division 4A swimmers took to the Gillette Aquatic Center pool Oct. 25-26 for their portion of the competition. Cheyenne East's 266 points gave them the team title, with two close races taking place for the second through fifth spots. Cheyenne Central edged out Campbell County for second, 199-194.5. The race for fourth and fifth was even closer, with Kelly Walsh nosing out Laramie by a single point, 176-175.

Laramie senior Sarah Morgan closed out her high school career with victories in both the 100 free (51.92) and 200 free (1:55.71). Also claiming two wins was Campbell County junior Kelsey Ochsner, who posted times of 57.37 in the 100 back and 56.23 in the 100 fly; and Kelly Walsh sophomore Iliana Jones, with her 24.22 in the 50 free and 1:08.26 in the 100 breast, just 2-hundredths ahead of Cheyenne East's Jonna Brown.

Kelly Walsh senior Larisa Jones stroked to victory in the 500 free (5:16.18), as did Cheyenne Central senior Mariah Miller in the 200 IM (2:14.42). Laramie freshman Ryleigh Kobbe's 382.40 points gave her first place in the diving competition.

Relay wins were divided between Cheyenne East, Cheyenne Central and Kelly Walsh. Cheyenne East's quartet of seniors Gracie Brown, Jonna Brown and Hayley Martin combined with sophomore Abby Urban for the 200 medley relay win (1:50.11); Miller anchored junior Taylor Segrave, senior Kendra McIlvain and sophomore Darby Murphy to their 200 free triumph (1:42.53); and Larisa and Iliana Jones were joined by senior Julie Schmitt and freshman Ana Everard for first in the 400 free relay
