FINA Diving Grand Prix Comes to Close in Italy

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, June 26. THE 2012 edition of the FINA Diving Grand Prix wrapped up on June 24 in Bolzano (ITA) with more than 90 elite divers from 19 countries taking part in the event.

China walked away with five of the eight titles at stake. In the men's field, Yang Jian took out the 10m platform with a gruelling total of 525.10 and triumphed again in the synchro same event with Chen Aisen. The 3m springboard synchro was won by Li Shixin/He Chao. Japan's Sho Sakai had a breakthrough victory in the 3m springboard with 452.25 points, finishing ahead of He Chao by 0.95 points and giving to his country the first-ever gold medal in the discipline at this level.

Among women, Bolzano-born Tania Cagnotto prevailed in the 3m springboard, sweeping gold in both the individual and synchro with Francesca Dallape while Chinese Liu Huixia bagged two golds in the 10m platform events, pairing with Zhu Jiaming.

Other nations with medals in Bolzano included Canada (2), Mexico (3), Russia (1), Sweden (1), Ukraine (1) and Venezuela (1).

One month away from the 2012 London Olympic Games, China confirms an excellent season with a first place in seven events of the general standings. Chen Aisen and Han Wang are the overall winners in the men's 10m platform and women's 3m springboard, respectively, with two wins each. Spain's Javier Illana tops the men's 3m springboard while Liu Huixia is the best in the women's 10m platform.
