Troy Dumais, Kristian Ipsen Lead Men’s Synchro Three-Meter Semis at U.S. Olympic Diving Trials

FEDERAL WAY, Washington, June 19. THREE-time Olympian Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) and Kristian Ipsen (Clayton, Calif) lead heading into Friday's men's synchronized 3-meter finals at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials after scoring 876.00 points in Monday's preliminaries and semifinals.

2008 Olympian Chris Colwill (Brandon, Fla.) and Drew Livingston (The Woodlands, Texas) are in second at 849.33, and David Bonuchi (Columbia, Mo.) and Michael Hixon (Amherst, Mass.) in third with 779.28.

Colwill and Livingston led by 4.86 points after the preliminaries, taking the lead on their last dive with 92.40 points on a reverse 3 ?. Colwill and Livingston hung on to their lead through the first two rounds of the semifinals before Dumais and Ipsen overtook them with 84.63 points on their front 3 ? pike in round three. Dumais and Ipsen's best dive came in round five, with 90.30 points on their reverse 3 ? and closed out the semis with 84.66 on their final dive, a front 2 ? with 2 twists.

“We had a wake-up call in the preliminaries. The competition was great out there,” Ipsen said. “It was very nerve-wracking, but we've been training hard and I'm happy with our semifinal score.”

Scores are cumulative through preliminaries, semifinals and finals. The top team will be nominated to the U.S. Olympic team.

An exhibition women's 10-meter synchronized event was also held Monday, with Ashley Buchter (East Berlin, Pa.) and Natalie Kalibat (Princeton, N.J.) leading with 482.52 points on two lists of dives.
