College Aquatic Sports Athletes of the Week Roundup: More Conferences Wrap Up Dual Meet Season

PHOENIX, Arizona, February 11. MORE college swim teams put a bow on their dual meet season with in-state and conference matchups before turning toward the conference championships. A few swimmers performed well enough to earn weekly awards from their prospective conferences.

Atlantic Coast
Male Swimmer of the Week: Nathan Hoisington, Virginia Tech

Hoisington posted his fastest 100 breaststroke of the season last weekend at the Virginia Tech Invite, posting a 54.89 to secure the win in the event. He also won the 200 breast with a 2:02.79.

Female Swimmer of the Week: Leah Smith, Virginia
Leah Smith’s 1000 freestyle time of 9:33.29 in the dual meet against Pitt was not only a school record but the fastest time in the nation this season.

Male Diver of the Week: J.B. Kolod, Virginia
Kolod helped the Cavaliers handily defeat Pitt with wins in both diving events. On the 3-meter springboard, he set a team record with 428.10 points, while scoring 379.93 points on the 1-meter.

Female Diver of the Week: Emily Howard, Clemson
Howard set a school record on the 3-meter springboard in the tri-meet against James Madison and Davidson, earning 319.50 for the victory.

Big 10
Male Swimmer of the Week: Eric Ress, Indiana

Swimming against Purdue, Ress was impressive in winning 200 free (1:37.68) and 200 back (1:42.97), as well as a runner-up finish in the 500 free. Ress 200 back time was his fastest dual meet swim of the season.

Female Swimmer of the Week: Ali DeLoof, Michigan
DeLoof showed off her versatility with wins in the 50 free (23.45) and 200 back (2:01.07) during the in-state matchup with Michigan State.

Male Diver of the Week: Darian Schmidt, Indiana
Schmidt has won both springboard events multiple times through the season, and he added another sweep last weekend against Purdue.

Female Diver of the Week: Carey Chen, Michigan
Chen won the 1-meter springboard event with 299.78 points and was second on 3-meter (317.93) in the dual meet against Michigan State.

Male Freshman of the Week: Eric Sande, Minnesota
At the Minnesota Challenge last weekend, Sande showed off his range, winning the 100 breast with a 55.09 and the 500 free with a 4:27.99.

Female Freshman of the Week: Maddie Hoch, Minnesota
The Pennsylvania native won the 100 backstroke in the Minnesota Challenge and was third in the 100 butterfly.

Conference USA
Female Swimmer of the Week: Lauren Chew, East Carolina

Chew took top honors in the 500 freestyle, setting the Minges Natatorium season record with a time of 4:59.53 against Campbell.

Female Diver of the Week: Colleen Jones, East Carolina
Jones won the both the one- and three-meter diving competitions in a dual meet with Campbell. The senior posted a score of 234.52 in the one-meter event, edging second place by 0.75 points. In the three-meter dive, Jones earned a score of 268.73 points.

Horizon League
Male Swimmer of the Week: Willem Poelmans, Green Bay

Poelmans picked up the only win for Green Bay in the dual meet against Wisconsin, taking the 200 IM in 1:52.32, breaking his home pool’s record by eight tenths of a second.

Female Swimmer of the Week: Emily McClellan, Milwaukee
The senior broke her own pool record in the 100 breaststroke taking first-place with a time of 1:00.74. In the 200 freestyle, she collected another first-place finish with a career-best time of 1:52.65.

Male Diver of the Week: K.J. Heger, Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Heger collected the diving League honor for the fourth-straight week and eighth time this year. Diving against Wisconsin, the junior won the 3-meter for the eighth time this season compiling a score of 358.42.

Female Diver of the Week: Rachel Margis, Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Margis tallied two second-place finishes in diving competition while taking on Wisconsin in dual-meet action last weekend.

Mid-American
Male Swimmer of the Week: Jacob Prodoehl, Miami University

The sophomore earned an individual win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.83 and was part of both winning relays.

Female Swimmer of the Week: Addison Ferguson, Ohio University
Ferguson won four individual events against Xavier and Miami. She won the sprint freestyles against Xavier (24.98, 53.63) and the backstrokes against Miami (55.64, 2:04.27).

Summit League
Male Swimmer of the Week: Blake Yeager, South Dakota State

The junior clocked a 1650 free time of 16:19.80 to take at the Minnesota Challenge. He also finished eighth in the 200 free (1:44.85).

Female Swimmer of the Week: Andrea Budahl, South Dakota State
The senior won the 500 free at the Minnesota Challenge with a 5:07.01. She also claimed a runner-up finish in the 200 fly (2:07.63) and took fourth in the 200 free (1:54.65).

Male Diver of the Week: Clark Kocourek, South Dakota State
The senior took third in the three-meter dive with a score of 314.25 and finished sixth in the one meter (298.20).

Female Diver of the Week: Greysen Hertting, South Dakota
Hertting claims her 10th Diver of the Week honor this season after winning the one-meter dive at the Minnesota Challenge. The freshman finished first in the one meter with 245.10 points.
