Tennessee Draws Top Billing at Georgia Tech Invitational This Weekend

ATLANTA, Georgia, November 22. GEORGIA Tech will welcome teams from the SEC and ACC, among others, at the Georgia Tech Invitational this weekend. Georgia Tech. Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, and Division-III Emory will feature in the men’s and women’s events, while Vanderbilt, Miami, James Madison, and Florida Gulf Coast will field women’s squads.

Tennessee’s Tristan Slater has the top seed time in three of his events over the weekend. Slater ranks first in the 200 breast (2:03.79), 400 IM (3:58.77), and 200 IM (1:50.69). His Volunteer teammate Sean Lehane holds the number one seed in both backstroke events (48.36 in the 100, 1:45.13 in the 200), while David Heron has the fastest seed time in both the 500 (4:31.98) and 1650 freestyle (9:17.12).

The races to watch on the men’s side will definitely be the sprint freestyles. Georgia Tech’s Andrew Kosic and Tennessee’s Luke Percy will be battling it out as the top seeds in both distances. In the 50, Kosic’s 20.36 just beats out Percy’s 20.38 as the top time, but Percy takes the top spot in the 100 with a 44.03 to Kosic’s 44.68. The two will also face off in the 200 free, where Kosic holds the first seed (1:38.84).

Tennessee swimmers have almost all of the top seeds for the women’s events. Molly Hannis is ranked first in both of the weekend’s breaststroke events (2:13.66 in the 200, 1:00.94 in the 100) and is in the national top ten times for both distances.

The Vols have all distances of covered, with Camryne Morris seeded first in the distance events (10:04.29 in the 1650 and a 4:52.85 in the 500) and Faith Johnson in the sprints (22.82 in the 50, 50.05 in the 100). Senior Lindsay Gendron holds the top seeds in the 200 free (1:47.51) as well as the 400 IM (4:15.51).

It’s not all about the Vols, though. Florida Gulf Coast’s Kira Toussaint is the number one seed in the 100 back (55.14), with teammate Emma Svensson right behind her (55.48). The University of Miami (Florida)’s My Fridell has the top ranked time in the 100 fly, clocking in at 55.22.
