Louisville’s Joao De Lucca With Top Billing in CollegeSwimming.com National College Swimmers of the Week

CARTHAGE, Wisconsin, November 1. THIS week, CollegeSwimming.com selected the best of the best when it came to individual swimmers at all three NCAA divisional levels with Louisville’s Joao De Lucca earning top billing with his meet against Tennessee.

Division I Women
Winning the CollegeSwimming.com Counsilman Hunsaker Women’s Division I Swimmer of the week is Auburn Freshman Allyx Purcell (Southport, Australia). Purcell posted two wins during action at the Royals Open hosted by Queens University of Charlotte. She posted a season-best time in the 100 free, a sub-50 second mark (49.58), topping former Auburn national champion in the event, Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace. Purcell also won gold in the 50 free after touching the wall in 22.90. The freshman helped the 200 free relay team to a first-place finish in 1:31.08, the third best time in the country this season. Purcell also won the SEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week.

Division I Men
Winning the Counsilman Hunsaker Men’s Division I Swimmer of the Week is Louisville Senior Joao DeLucca (Sao Paulo Brazil). A defending NCAA champion, De Lucca had a strong performance in an upset victory for the No. 19 Cardinals as they beat No. 12 Tennessee for the first time in school history, winning 167.5-132.5. De Lucca had two individual victories, in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle, while placing second in the 50-yard freestyle. De Lucca swam the 100-yard freestyle in 44.02, the top time in the NCAA thus far, while swimming the fifth best time in the NCAA with a 1:37.44 in the 200 freestyle. Both results were NCAA ‘B’ cuts. DeLucca is a multiple time winner of the CollegeSwimming.com Counsilman Hunsaker Swimmer of the week and was also named the American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week.

Division II Women
Adeline Martin (Antibes, France), a Bridgeport Junior is the Counsilman Hunsaker Division II Swimmer of the Week for CollegeSwimming.com. A first-year transfer, Martin was a part of four pool records on the day against Assumption, while picking up her second NCAA B Standard in the 400-yard IM (4:31.74), as well as setting the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:09.97) record on the first 100 on her way to winning the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:24.02).

Division II Men
Saint Leo sophomore Matheus Assis has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week and the Counsilman Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Division II Swimmer of the Week. Assis earned two NCAA provisional times in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle relay against No. 1 Florida Southern. Against the Moccasins, the sophomore finished the 100-yard freestyle in first place in a time of 46.10 seconds. He also took first in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 50.57 seconds. The native of Jo?o Pessoa, Brazil was part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that recorded the second best time so far in Division II in a time of 1:23.56 for first place against the Mocs. Against Rollins, Assis finished first in the 200-yard backstroke and the 400-yard relay.

Division III Women
Winning the CollegeSwimming.com Counsilman Hunsaker Women’s Division III Swimmer of the week is Kenyon Sophmore Katie Kaestner (Anacortes, WA). Leading the way for the Ladies against the Ohio State University was the sophomore breaststroke specialist . She doubled-up on second-place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.15) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.84).

Division III Men
Winning the CollegeSwimming.com Counsilman Hunsaker Men’s Division III Swimmer of the week is Kenyon Freshman Trevor Manz (Eau Claire, WI). He was Kenyon’s leading individual point scorer against the Buckeyes, leading the way with second-place showings in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.25) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.63).
