Northern Michigan, Moorhead State, St. Cloud State Do Battle in Michigan; Debbi Lawrence Downs Pair of Pool Records

MARQUETTE, Michigan, October 19. IN an exciting tri-meet, Northern Michigan hosted Minnesota State Moorhead and St. Cloud State at the PEIF Pool Friday night. Northern Michigan downed Moorhead (169-74) and St. Cloud State (146-94) on day one of a back-to-back two-day doubleheader, while St. Cloud State downed Moorhead, 167-74.

NMU’s Debbi Lawrence continued her strong season, this time taking down a pair of pool records in the 50 free (23.73) and 100 free (52.06). NMU also had a strong diving performance from Molly Kearney, who posted NCAA qualifiers in the one meter (262.30) and three meter (273.05)

“It was a great day today,” NMU coach Heidi Voigt said. “Everyone swam really strong and I’m happy with all the times. It was awesome to see Debbi break the records and Molly qualify for nationals in both diving events.”

The Wildcats dominated the day with 10 wins. Along with Lawrence and Kearney’s impressive nights, NMU also had doubles from Emily Brennan, who won the 200 free (1:59.02) and 500 free (5:17.85), and Madisen Sechena, who won the 400 IM (4:40.21) and 200 breast (2:23.89). Meanwhile, Tara Dowling clinched the 1650 free in 18:26.34.

St. Cloud’s Meghan Carmichael topped the 200 fly in 2:10.83, while teammate Erin Hart claimed the 200 back in 2:10.94.

NMU opened the night with a relay win in the 400 medley relay with a 3:57.50 from Emily Bourguignon, Madisen Sechena, Crystal Bennet and Debbi Lawrence, while Moorhead’s Annika Bordak, Susie Kitzman, Angelee Hale and Megan Rieland picked up the 400 free relay to close the night in 3:40.02.
