Delaware Knocks Off Georgetown In Season-Opener

NEWARK, Delaware, October 5. UNIVERSITY of Delaware sophomore diver Kristina Congdon won both the 1-Meter (266.32) and 3-Meter (281.02) diving events as she qualified for NCAA Zones Diving Championships and led the University of Delaware swimming and diving team to a 306-171 victory over Georgetown. The 3-Meter finish is a career-best for Congdon.

Also for the Blue Hen women, sophomore Alyssa Sanders and classmate Morgan Whyte each earned two first place finishes. Sanders placed first in the 100 backstroke event with a time of 58.99 and Whyte finished first in the 50 freestyle (24.00). Both student-athletes were part of the Delaware 200 Medley Relay team, along with freshman Annie Nunes and senior Tori Gillespie that took home a meet-best time of 1:46.54.

Junior Hailey Farrell earned a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle (10:28.51) while Dominique Montoya was the top performer in the 200 freestyle (1:55.86). Three other Blue Hen women earned first place individual finishes against Georgetown; Shea Solt in the 400 IM (4:35.11), Maggie Tracy in the 100 freestyle (53.56) and Brittany Lazear in the 500 free (5:09.86).

The Delaware men were led by freshmen Everett Albert and Cory Camp. Albert earned two first place individual finishes against the Hoyas and one relay team top finish. Albert finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:45.21),100 freestyle (48.43) and was the second leg of the Blue Hen 400 freestyle relay squad that finished first (3:10.41). Albert competed with Sihan Liu, Tom?s Elder and Matthew Marquez in the 400 free relay.

Camp registered two first place finishes for Delaware. Camp won the 1000 freestyle event (9:46.53) and the 500 freestyle (4:46.73).

The Delaware men registered four other first place finishes throughout the day. Sophomore Alex Tooley finished first in the 400 IM (4:05.30), senior captain Cole Clark earned a first place finish in the 100 butterfly (51.40), junior Tim Ware earned a meet best time in the 100 backstroke (52.25) and diver Luke Winkler had the top performance in the 3-Meter (298.87).

Both Delaware teams will take off next week before returning to Rawstrom Natatorium on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. against George Mason.
