Texas Christian University Swimming Adds Three to Coaching Roster

FORT WORTH, Texas, September 12. THE TCU swimming and diving program has added a trio of assistant coaches, head coach Richard Sybesma announced today. John Funk, Caroline Maxvill and Adam Stoner will add extensive and diversified experience to the TCU sideline.

“I really like the chemistry of our staff,” Sybesma said. “Everyone is upbeat and hard working. Each coach on our staff brings a wealth of knowledge. I am excited about the direction our program is headed.”

A 2013 graduate of Rider University in New Jersey, Funk was a three-time team MVP at Rider while leading the Broncs to back-to-back Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) titles in 2012 and 2013. A three-time MAAC conference champion and record holder, he posted an NCAA B Cut 1:47.56 in the 200-year individual medley at the 2012 MAAC Championships. A native of Las Vegas, Nev. Funk will be responsible for coaching sprints while assisting with the teams’ weight training program.

An Olympic Trial Qualifier and Texas State Champion, Maxvill joins the Horned Frogs after serving as head swimming and diving coach at Athens High School in 2012-13. A four-year letterwinner at Texas A&M University, Maxvill helped the Aggies capture two Big 12 titles (2008, 2010) during her collegiate career while also earning Second Team Academic All-America honors in 2010. As a freshman, Maxvill swam a 2:17.38 in the 200-yard breaststroke, which ranked eighth in school history. A native of Dallas, Texas Maxvill will be responsible for coaching the individual medley group while also leading the junior varsity swim team.

A four-year student assistant coach at Lock Haven University, Stoner helped guide a Lock Haven women’s squad that ranked No. 21 nationally during the 2012-13 season. Stoner also has four years experience as an assistant coach for Tennessee Swimming Camps and spent summers as Assistant Waterfront Director and Director of Swimming at Brant Lake Camp in Brant Lake, N.Y. A native of Walnut Bottom, Pa., Stoner will serve as the programs recruiting, office, video and equipment coordinator.

The Horned Frogs recently released their 2013-14 schedule, which kicks off with an exhibition swim at the University of North Texas on Sept. 20 at 4 p.m.
